Installing ISIS Drivers and Plug-ins

Most software products will have instructions for configuring them witha scanner. Usually this will involve installing ISIS drivers or Plug-ins.

ISIS (Image and Scanner Interface Standard) is a driver that is installedfrom the Scan Tools floppy or Scanner Solutions CD-ROM. Most programs thatuse an ISIS driver will require you to access it from the Chooser the firsttime you use the program. Unless noted otherwise in the software instructions,follow these steps to use the ISIS driver.

Choosing the ISIS Driver

1. Launch the program that uses an ISIS driver.

2. With the program running, click on the Apple menu and select theChooser.

3. On the Chooser, locate the "Mustek F/B Scan…" icon. Ifthis icon is not present you will need to run the installer on the ScanTools floppy or Scanner Solutions CD-ROM. Consult Document#[3520] for the Scan Tools Disk installation instructions or Document# [3540] for the Scanner Solutions CD installation instructions.

4. Double click the "Mustek F/B Scanner…" icon and closethe Chooser.

5. The program is now linked with the ISIS driver and should allow scanningfunctions.

Locating and Installing the "Mustek F/B Scanner…" Plug-in

Plug-ins are modules that interface directly with the scanner. Theyneed to be present in the main folder of the software you wish to use,or in a specialized sub-folder within the program. The manuals for mostprograms will tell you where to put the Plug-in, and the steps below willhelp you locate them in your system and move them to the desired location.

1. If you installed from the Scan Tools floppy disks:

a. Double click your hard disk icon.

b. Locate the Mustek Plug-ins folder and double click it.

c. In the Plug-ins folder, locate the "Mustek F/B Scanner…"Plug-in. Click it one time to highlight it.

d. Click on the File menu and select Duplicate.

e. A copy of the Plug-in will now be made. Click and drag the copy outof the Plug-ins folder.

f. Close the Plug-ins folder.

g. Click and drag the "Mustek F/B Scanner…" Plug-in copyto the main folder of the program you wish to use. Note that some programswill require the Plug-in to be in another folder within the main folder.Check the manuals for your software to verify Plug-in placement.

2. If you installed from the Scan Tools V 3.1 floppy disk:

a. Insert the Scan Tools disk into the floppy drive.

b. When the Scan Tools window opens, click on the Install Me First icon.

c. After the "Welcome" screen appears, click on "Continue."

d. When the dialogue box containing the Scan Tools information is displayed,read the information and click "Continue."

e. When the "Easy Install" window appears, click on "EasyInstall" in the upper-left corner and select "Custom Install."

f. Click the box in front of Mustek Plug-in to check it and click "Install."

g. Installation will begin. A dialogue box will be displayed askingyou to "Select where to install: Mustek F/B Scanner…" Thiswill default to your Hard Disk and display your program folders.

h. Scroll through the folders until you find the program folder youwish to install the Plug-in into. You may have to double click the folderto open it and choose a sub-folder. Check the manuals for the softwareyou are installing the Plug-in into for proper placement.

i. When you have found the proper folder, click it once to highlightit, then click the "Select" button to install the Plug-in.

j. Click "Quit" when you are finished. Click and drag thedisk icon to the trash to eject the disk.

3. If you installed from the Scan Tools floppy disks, but do not havea Plug-ins folder on your hard disk:

a. Double click your hard disk icon.

b. Insert the Scan Tools disk into the floppy drive.

c. When the floppy disk icon appears, double click it to open it.

d. From the floppy disk, locate the Mustek Plug-in folder and doubleclick it.

e. Drag the "Mustek F/B Scanner…" Plug-in to the hard disk.This will copy the Plug-in to the hard disk.

f. Drag the floppy disk icon to the Trash to eject the disk.

g. Locate the "Mustek F/B Scanner…" Plug-in on the harddisk.

h. Click and drag the "Mustek F/B Scanner…" Plug-in to themain folder of the program you wish to use. Note that some programs willrequire the Plug-in to be in another folder within the main folder. Checkthe manuals for your software to verify Plug-in placement.

4. If you installed from the Scanner Solutions CD-ROM:

a. Double click your hard disk icon.

b. Locate the Color-It! folder and double click it. If Color-It! isnot installed, you will have to run the CD-ROM installation again. ConsultDocument # 3540 for installing the CD.

c. From the Color-It! folder, locate the Color-It! Stuff folder anddouble click it.

d. From the Color-It! Stuff folder, locate the Plug-Ins folder and doubleclick it.

e. When the Plug-ins folder opens, it should contain a "MustekF/B Scanner…" Plug-in and a ColorSync Filter Plug-in. If these arenot present, you will need to re-run the CD installation.

f. Click the "Mustek F/B Scanner…" Plug-in one time to highlightit.

g. Click on the File menu and select Duplicate.

h. A copy of the Plug-in will now be made. Click and drag the copy outof the Plug-ins folder.

i. Close the Plug-ins folder.

j. Click and drag the "Mustek F/B Scanner…" Plug-in copyto the main folder of the program you wish to use. Note that some programswill require the Plug-in to be in another folder within the main folder.Check the manuals for your software to verify Plug-in placement.
